Rebels Earn Draw With First-Place Seattle

RIVERSIDE, California (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV’s Bailey Letherman converted a penalty kick in the final minutes of the second half to tie the game and help the Rebels earn a 2-2 draw against first-place Seattle in a thrilling WAC men’s soccer contest Friday night from Johann Memorial Field.

UNLV scored first on a rocket of a shot from senior Timo Mehlich in the first half, before Seattle tied the game a few minutes later at 1-1. In the second half the Redhawks jumped ahead 2-1 and looked set for the win late until a Rebel was knocked down inside the box, earning a penalty kick attempt. Letherman sent his shot to the left side for the score. Both teams had strong changes in the overtime period but the game would end in the 2-2 tie.

Lukas Betz was strong in goal again for the Rebels, facing 11 total shots and coming up with nine saves on the night.
